We had the most epic weekend celebrating Dominique, my sister from another mister, as she married her prince charming! I can’t believe it was already 2 weeks ago?! Will share some sneaks from the stunning wedding below, but I wanted to recap one of the most special wedding events: her bridal shower! We had a beautiful afternoon showering our bride.
Bridal Shower Planning
When it came to planning, I knew I wanted it to be very fresh with whites, champagne/golds and greens. Why? Because those were colors the bride was focusing on in her wedding. She was also planning to have some grey accents, which is why I was drawn to this venue for its’ white and grey room. I love a detail and while the guests didn’t know some of what was to come on wedding day that the bride had shared, I wanted to bring in some little nods to what was to come. I’ve shared some bridal shower planning tips before so with sharing Dom’s shower, I wanted to showcase the beautiful afternoon. Hopefully this will inspire you as you plan any upcoming special events.
Remember: Get inspiration from all types of events and incorporate some of those ideas into your own planning! You never know what you may be able to use.
The shower was held at The Darcy Hotel in Dupont Circle. We’d attended a birthday party in that space the year before, so I was familiar with it already. Additionally, it was going to allow the space needed and the look I was going for. Most importantly, they were able to work well with my budget and allowed me the flexibility to create the event I wanted.
The shower was held mid-afternoon so it was post brunch and pre-dinner. I opted for a plated salad (arugula berry goat cheese salad) along with family style hors d’oeuvres. The bride-to-be LOVES pizza so I chose a margherita flatbread pizza as well as chicken and beef sate. The dessert table had a beautiful yellow ombre red velvet cake (the brides favorite color and cake) and cupcakes from Buttercream Bakeshop.
As for cocktails, there was a refreshing lavender lemonade and rose spritzer with edible flowers! A soft, feminine touch.
You know I love to decorate – especially for special events! I decided for Dom’s shower, I wanted the decor to be soft and romantic so I wanted to incorporate details that would play into that.
Florals: Atelier Ashley Flowers ~ she is delightful and created beautiful floral centerpieces for the shower.
Candle holders: I knew I wanted candlelight for a romantic look. I was toying with the idea of candelabras and then figured these tapers would work so well. I found these beautiful, acrylic candle holders at CB2 and bought them knowing that I was sure to use them again!
Paper: The invitations, signs, placecards were a part of this Minted invitation suite I selected. I loved the greenery and it fit the color scheme perfectly.
Shower Games: I found the shower games on Etsy and tweaked them as needed. I was so happy to have found a design that complimented the invitation suite so well.
Balloon Garland: I put together y’all!! I was so proud of myself lol. I ordered the kit on Etsy and it came with simple instructions. I was so happy with how it turned out.
Napkins: The ‘cheers’ napkins were from Etsy.
