Matcha is all the craze! Would you have thought of turning your warm or cold matcha drink of choice into a cocktail? Well, I got you boo – just in time for Halloween. How cute would a matcha martini be to serve for a Halloween party/gathering? I’d like one! Foursigmatic is one of my favorite brands right now. Foursigmatic creates mushroom based coffees, elixers, blends and matcha. They provide high ‘quality products with the goal of health and dietary wellness in mind by using the world’s most nutrient dense foods, like mushrooms’ (Foursigmatic). Given this, probably not the most healthy thing to do to add alcohol. Consider it your cheat drink. Cheers!
It’s vibrant green color is festive and fun – perfect for the Fall and of course, Halloween. Bonus: it will give you an energy boost for a night of fun!
What is Matcha?
“Matcha literally means “powdered tea.” When you order traditional green tea, components from the leaves get infused into the hot water, then the leaves are discarded. With matcha, you’re drinking the actual leaves, which have been finely powdered and made into a solution. [This is done] traditionally by mixing about a teaspoon of matcha powder with a third cup of hot water (heated to less than a boil), which is then whisked with a bamboo brush until it froths.
Because matcha is made from high-quality tea, and the whole leaves are ingested, it’s a more potent source of nutrients than steeped green tea. In addition to providing small amounts of vitamins and minerals, matcha is rich in antioxidants. [These] have been tied to protection against heart disease and cancer, as well as better blood sugar regulation, blood pressure reduction, and anti-aging” (Health).
What’s this about mushrooms?
“WHEN BRAIN-HUGGING LION’S MANE MUSHROOM MEETS MATCHA: If you’re looking to curb your daily coffee intake, matcha is a superb choice for the morning or afternoon. While matcha contains caffeine, it also contains L-theanine, a relaxing amino acid, resulting in a feeling of balanced energy for your whole body. There aren’t many drinks out there that can make you feel energetic, calm, and focused all at the same time but our Mushroom Matcha is pretty much everyday magic. In addition to the creative benefits associated of both matcha and our lion’s mane, we’ve included the powerful adaptogen astragalus to protect your body from occasional stress, and a hint of ginger to support digestion and flavor” (Foursigmatic).
- 1 tsp Matcha Powder – I use Foursigmatic Mushroom Matcha
- 2 tsp agave nectar
- 1 oz of vodka – I used Titos
- 3 tbsp water
In a small mixing bowl (you could use a matcha bowl, if you have one), add matcha powder and agave nectar – whisk. It will make a paste. Add 3 tbsp water and stir. Add mixture to cocktail shaker full of ice. Add vodka and shake. Strain into your martini glass and enjoy!
*optional – add a sugar rim or garnish with a sugary candy or eyeball looking candy (in lieu of olives)
